Research for Final

My "Big Idea" is loneliness.  The feeling of loneliness is when you feel disconnected from others and feel like we are empty.  I want to do one artwork on loneliness in a crowd and then another artwork on someone who is literally alone.  The one with loneliness in a crowd will be a group of people walking and then one person who looks like they are sad and do not want to be there.  With this person, I will make them pop with a red color and back the rest of the people fade out in the background so the main focus is on the person who feels alone.  The artwork where the person is truly alone I will have a black and white background of an old abandoned house with one person sitting alone.  I will try to use the digitize effect in which it looks like the person is disconnecting from their body.  The work will be used to show that even in a crowd someone can still feel a sense of loneliness just the same as if they were truly alone.

My "Big Idea" of loneliness was inspired by Vanja Rancic's paintings with the three central colors of black, white, and red from my last blog.  I was also inspired by the digitized photo I found off stumbleupon.com.  Another inspiration of mine was when I googled the term loneliness, most of the pictures that showed up were taken in black and white.

Inspirational Artists

The first artists I chose was by the name of Vanja Rancic.  She worked with the theme of loneliness and human alienation.  I was drawn to her work because of the way the paintings came together in which the leading lines drew your eye to to two people fumbling around and then to the cities that lie in the background.  I wonder why the people are positioned the way they are and what the pipes are used for.  I am inspired by her use of the black, white and red colors which I will attempt to play with in my final works.

The next artist I chose was Elena Dudina.  Her artwork appealed to me because of her use of the beauty of nature with the beauty of the women who seem to contort to their surroundings.  The fact that she chose a pretty landscape with the harsh white of the women's dresses catches my eye immediately.  I believe that her theme had something to do with beauty/majesty.  I question why the women are wearing what look like white sheets in the dark colors of the nature.  I will use the idea of choosing one color to pop out of my artwork to draw in the viewers eye.

Quiz Four

I chose the two movie posters from Titanic with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio and The Explendables with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.  In the Titanic movie poster we are presented with light soft colors and a very simple scheme.  The target audience for this movie would be those people who are hopeless romantics and want a good love story.  There is the boat on the front that is the main part of the movie and then we also have the two main characters who are very close together.  The couple is on the top part of the poster with the boat beneath them.  The boat played a significant role in the couples meeting and also their ending of the relationship.  The boat signified their union together and when the boat went down, so did their love along with it.  The soft colors used on the poster are symbolic of a soft romance that is quite simple.  The Expendables movie poster is done with black, white, and red colors.  The target audience for this movie would be action seekers.  The harsh contrast between the black and white shows the difference with the background and the names of the actors in the movie.  The white draws your eye to see who the actors are and what the title of the movie is.  The black is the background with the man’s back facing towards the audience.  The man has the movie title tattooed on his back along with a crow that is perched on top of it.  When I think of tattoos I think of people who are more dangerous and live life on the edge.  So when I see this movie poster I think that there is going to be some awesome action scenes with a badass guy in the movie.  There is a clear difference between the two movie posters in that the one is done with very soft and light colors and the other is done with harsh blacks and whites.  Another difference between the two is that the one has a picture of a couple close together and the other has the picture of a tattooed man by himself.  This makes me think that one is going to be romantic and the other is going to have a lot of action.

Midterm Project

My big idea is Depression and the feeling of being alone. I realized that there is more to depression than the eye sees.  I focused more towards the theme of being alone because that is what most people think when others say that they are depressed.  The feeling of being alone intrigued me because there are so many people in this world and yet there are some of us who feel that we are the only ones.  I explored the idea of Depression and being alone by choosing one single person in a vast background such as on a train track or out in the woods.  The person is completely alone but there is one little girl that appears in both works who is in a sense “watching over them.”  The hands in the one photo are attempting to keep the world from falling down on the boy whereas the trees are doing such in the other photo.  Other objects surround them both trying to keep the world from crashing down on them but they still have the feeling of being alone in the world.  This topic is of great importance to me because I have a friend who is going through depression and I wanted to research the idea of depression and what goes on in a persons head who has depression.
