My "Big Idea" is loneliness. The feeling of loneliness is when you feel disconnected from others and feel like we are empty. I first tried to do the idea of depression but learned that it was very difficult to pinpoint exactly what I wanted to portray in my art so I decided to choose something that was going to be more specific to depression which is the feeling of loneliness. I decided to do one work on loneliness in a crowd and then another work on someone who is literally alone. The one with loneliness in a crowd I chose a picture of some friends and I with one person who is in focus with the rest of us blurred out. With this person, I made him pop by making the blurred part of the picture a reddish tint and making him the only one in regular color. The artwork where the person is truly alone I had a picture of a friend sitting on a bench in the woods with her gazing off into the distance. I digitized her and made her black and white which makes it looks like the she is almost disconnecting from her body. I made the background a reddish tint as well so that she would pop more and the focus would be on her in the photo. I got the idea of the red background from Vanja Rancic's artwork in which she used black white and a red background in her work dealing with loneliness. The work will be used to show that even in a crowd someone can still feel a sense of loneliness just the same as if they were truly alone.
